Wherever you are...Cyberconference: 4/7/2010
A Cyberconference throughout the month of April. My Australian colleagues, Rob McNeilly and Gabrielle Peacock, of the Milton H. Erickson Institute of Tasmania, have assembled a wonderful array of recorded presentations by a superb faculty of two dozen experts, including George Burns, Paul Gibney, Stephen Lankton, Jeff Zeig, Stephen Gilligan and Bill O’Hanlon. This is a cyberconference where you can have the opportunity to listen to each and all of them, and if you want, download their talk and listen to at your leisure - on your computer, iPod, CD player etc. any time in the future. There's no need to choose among presenters; once you sign up for the flat fee of US$250 (about $275 Australian dollars), you have access to all of the presentations. Thus, there’s no need to miss out on anyone, and there are no travel or accommodation expenses. I’m pleased to join this great faculty, and hope you will get further information (presenters and topics) and register by clicking on the link below

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS: Heard about it, now learn about it. Current figures indicate that 1 in 150 people have a diagnosis on the autism spectrum, although controversy exists about why that is the case. Whether you work with children, adults or families, it is clear that clinician’s will be seeing more individuals with a diagnosis on the spectrum and few have any training in how to best work with this unique population in therapy. In fact, many of the adults you might currently be working with may be misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, ADHD, or personality disorders when in fact; they may have Asperger’s Syndrome. Traditional therapy approaches and communication are not as effective with this population for a number of reasons that will be discussed. What these clients need most are often the very skills that the majority of people never have to be taught: understanding the subtle intent of messages often not spoken, recognizing and understanding nonverbal cues, social rules, abstract language like idioms and metaphors, and many more skills that will be discussed in this presentation. Learn how to modify your language, add visual components to cognitive-behavioral approaches and integrate experiential exercises into your therapy to be most effective with this unique population. Casey Truffo, Founder of the Therapists Leadership Institute, organized a fantastic virtual conference last year featuring14 of the world’s leading therapists. This year promises to bring more excellent information in the second annual event and I am pleased to be participating. Michael will be talking about Mindfulness and Hypnosis at noon (PDT) /3:00 (EDT). Please click on the registration link below

If You Like Mindfulness Then You’ll LOVE Hypnosis. Please join me on the phone (or on your computer) at noon (PDT) / 3:00 (EDT) on Tuesday, May 18 for the Second Annual Worldwide Therapists' Leadership Virtual Conference. In recent years, popular forms of meditation that have their origins in eastern Buddhist traditions that have collectively come to be called “mindfulness” have been applied to a variety of clinical problems where they have successfully demonstrated the therapeutic value of teaching people ways to direct and intensify their quality of focus. It may surprise many that the field of hypnosis had already established these same findings and has explored more diverse ways in which such methods could be applied in treatment. The literature of hypnosis is broad, deep and fascinating. Neither hypnosis or mindfulness are therapies in their own right, of course, but their capacity for improving the quality of people’s lives has received substantial empirical support as a class of meaningful interventions. The focus is entirely on clinical applications of key aspects of both hypnosis and mindfulness by deconstructing such processes, identifying their therapeutically relevant components, and constructing meaningful interventions by incorporating them in novel ways. Dr. Yapko’s perspective and this workshop’s content is shaped by his expertise in hypnosis, suggestion, information processing, and therapeutic applications of dissociation and association in treatment. Casey Truffo, Founder of the Therapists Leadership Institute, organized a fantastic virtual conference last year featuring14 of the world’s leading therapists. This year promises to bring more excellent information in the second annual event. I'm pleased to be participating again and this time, my wife Diane will have an opportunity to talk with Casey about her work with Autism Spectrum Disorders at 9:00 (PDT) noon (EDT).
